SYSTEMS, INC.
Before starting any of the
diagnostics it is suggested that all programs are closed, screen saver in
disabled and most TSR’s are
Disabled. To disable the screensaver
- go to an empty area on the screen display and right click, a
menu list will appear, at the bottom of the list, left click on “properties”. A window will appear that is labeled “display properties” at the top are several tabs, right click on
the “screensaver” tab and in the middle of the window is the name of the
screen saver you are using. If you click on the arrow to the right of the name
and scroll up to the top of the list which says “none”, then go down to
the bottom of the window and left click on “apply”. To disable TSR’s – go to the right end of the taskbar next to
the clock and there will be several icons, if you right click on each
icon a menu should come up and it may say “disable”, “exit” or “close”
– click on whichever one appears and close that program. You are now ready to
continue the diagnostics

ANTI-VIRUS |
To run this diagnostic, after you have closed all your
programs, go to “START” then “PROGRAMS” and look for your
anti-virus software, it should be one of the three most popular – NORTON’S,
MCAFEE OR PC-CILLIN. Start the anti-virus software and a window
may come up that asks what type of scan you would like to do – it should be
set on all files and all hard drives if you have more than one drive. The
program may ask if you want it to delete the files or quarantine files if
they can not be cleaned. If you
quarantine files you will be able to find out which ones are infected and
then replace them by reinstalling the program if necessary and then delete
the quarantined files. This may take
a while, I would suggest checking the computer to make sure it is still
running the program. |
